Program Associate

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media, and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country as well as the possible solutions. CRFB is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Board.

CRFB is in the process of developing and launching a project devoted to political system reform. There is wide ranging consensus amongst academic experts and political observers that the U.S. political system is experiencing governance challenges that are unprecedented in modern history, with current levels of polarization and partisanship at the highest since the post-Civil War reconstruction period. This project will convene relevant stakeholders and experts and put forward research and ideas that can improve the system’s ability to address pressing public policy challenges.

Position Summary: 

The Program Associate will report to the Chief of Staff & Director of Strategic Initiatives and be responsible for managing the development and execution of various project elements. This will include researching and interfacing with project stakeholders as well as taking a lead role in planning and managing project events.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research and interface with project stakeholders, including but not limited to reform thought leaders, academics, reform advocates, and funders.
  • Work with leadership to develop project strategy and oversee management of day-to-day project activities, including maintaining project timelines and overseeing deliverables.
  • Serve as lead staff member responsible for organizing project events with relevant stakeholders, including a large scale conference.
  • Exercise judgement to prioritize opportunities, prepare background materials and presentations and other project supporting material, and serve as external project spokesperson as needed.
  • Manage up and across functional teams to achieve project goals and objectives


Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • An interest and background in U.S. political system governance reform
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Experience organizing large scale events
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written
  • Capitol Hill experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience
